I remember about 4 or 5 years ago, when “convergence” was really kicking in with cell phones…today, my blackberry “device” has converged into being:
a digital camera
a video camera
a voice recorder
a gps mapping device… and more.
I read in the globe and mail this morning something that really struck me:
“What [consumers] would rather do is avoid four or five devices, and just buy one device that does it all.”
The writer, Omar El Akkad, is referring not to cel phones & digital cameras etc, but to computing devices.
And I realize the similarities with cel phone convergence years ago…he is right on!
We are seeing the convergence of my cel phone with my lap top with my desk top with my television with my…who knows what else will be transitioned into one unit in the coming years.
Kind of like I am sure people were pretty blown away when the first radios were installed in a car!
