Lots of people asking me about my “remember when”…ad campaign and asking where

the content came from.  Anyone who knows me knows I am not creative enough to come up with it on my own…Years ago, at my wife’s Grandfathers 100th birthday, we had come across the content and I just dug it up again…so here are some of the points from “remember when”…

Hopscotch, butterscotch, double dutch?

jacks, kickball, dodgeball?

Mother may I?

Red Rover?

Hula Hoops?

Running barefoot through the sprinklers?

An ice cream cone on a warm summer night:

Remember watching saturday morning cartoons? Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, the Three stooges?

How about when TV commercials were shorter, and not so personal!

Or how about staying up late for tv shows like Gunsmoke, The Waltons or Little House on the Prairie!

Or back even further, does anyone remember listening to Superman on the radio?

Can you remember when “around the corner” seemed like going somewhere!

I remember a million mosquitoe bites in the summer time!

I remember climbing trees and building igloos out of snow banks when we had so much more snow!

Playing cops and robbers, cowboys and indians.

Can you remember walking to school? No matter the weather?

Running till you were out of breath? Or laughing so hard your stomch hurt?

Jumping on the bed? Pillow fights, spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down? Or, being tired from playing, remember that? Being tired from just playing?

Remember when the worst possible embarassment was being picked last for a team?

Eating kool aid powder?

It wasn’t odd to have 2 or 3 “best” friends?

When nobody owned a purebred dog!

When a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter was a miracle!

Remember when laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?

Nearly everybodies mom was at home when the kids got there after school?

When it took five minutes for the TV to warm up, if you even had a TV

When it was magic that your uncle would remove his thumb?

I don’t get that one.

Remember when milk went up by one cent, and everyone talked about it for weeks?

When you would (and could) reach down to pick up a penny on the street?

When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, for free, every time.

And you paid for gas per gallon, not per litre.

When it was a great privelege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents.

When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then. When all the male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done?

When being sent to the principals office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home.

Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn’t because of drive by shootings, drugs or gangs… Our parents were a much bigger threat!

Remember when decisions were made by going “eeny meeny miney mo”

“Race issue” meant arguing about who ran the fastest. Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in monopoly.

The worst thing a boy could catch from the opposite sex was “cooties”

It was unbelievable that “dodge ball” was not an olympic event

Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better. Taking drugs meant orange flavored chewable aspirin. And ice cream was considered a basic food group.

Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true. Abilities were discovered because of a double dare. Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors.

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!

It’s been so nice remembering with you, and we hope you all will take time to remember some of these,

WE DOUBLE DARE YA!
