So many positive signs this weekend that are kinda new or rare in the economics of Summerland…
First off, Congrats to the Chamber, Summerland’s business voice!
The Chamber ran an aggressive, action oriented promotional campaign that had very strong participation with local merchants, and the results were nothing short of spectacular! Summerland was so busy this long weekend! We had all kinds of visitors stopping in our office to ask about our little town, and these people were very enthusiastic about discovering just what we have here!
Early Friday morning, there were 5 or 6 bikers gathered outside the RE/MAX office, looking at listings in our windows. Turns out they were staying here in town, and planning some bike tours around our wineries and attractions. That was a very encouraging start to the day!
Also, the farmers markets are starting to make real headway, the boat launches were packed with visitors, the Trestle was booming with tourists, bikers and hikers, the patio at Sweet Tooth looked amazing, and on and on. Just so encouraging to see Summerland so active with people happy to be here, liking what we got!
This kind of busy, action packed weekend is what Summerland can and should strive for in our future. Seriously, let’s see an economic vision around a viable plan here and get to work.
I understand that the Economic Development Officer has been working hard on researching and compiling just such a plan, and now we just look forward to seeing the outcome of his efforts. It has been a long time with a lot of tough economic news that business in our town has had to endure, and the time is now to accomplish something. Can’t wait to hear the exciting new vision that will come out of our Economic Development office. (Anyone know of the timeline on that, btw?)
